The following instructions are for those seeking to baptize their children who are younger than 7 years of age. For more information about having your child baptized who is 7 years of age or older, please contact Martha Torres by visiting the About Our Parish page.
To celebrate the sacrament of baptism, all of the following conditions must be met. If you have any questions regarding these requirements or need help fulfilling them, please contact us through the About Our Parish page.
1. The family of the one to be baptized must be registered at Holy Spirit for a minimum of 6 months. Registration implies that the person or family has chosen Holy Spirit as their parish family, attends Mass regularly, supports the parish financially by using contribution envelopes, and intends to be an active member for the foreseeable future.
2. The parent or parents of the one to be baptized are required to attend a baptismal seminar. This seminar is only for parents of children younger than 7 years of age. If a child is 7 years or older, the parents and child must attend special classes through the Religious Education program and then the child will be baptized at the Easter Vigil.
3. The godparents must also attend a seminar, either at Holy Spirit Catholic Church or at another Catholic Church. If they do not live close to Holy Spirit Parish, they may attend a seminar at their own parish and submit a letter or certificate of completion to the pastor of Holy Spirit.
4. A godparent must be 16 years of age; have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, be actively practicing their faith; and if married, the must have the sacrament of marriage. Only one godparent is required for baptism, though parents usually choose two.
