Lector

When the lector proclaims the Word of God, he/she becomes the voice of the Lord as the inspired words are vocalized and made to come to life.  The proclaimer becomes God’s spokesperson to His assembled people. The scriptures become the very foundation of the lector’s prayer life.

Regardless of whether one is scheduled to proclaim the Word of God or not, (as one never knows if they will be called upon the proclaim the Word as a substitute) the lector must initiate preparation to proclaim at the earliest possible time in the week which precedes proclamation. As part of that preparation, lectors:

• Read the scriptures to ascertain what God is saying to the proclaimer.
• Study the scriptures to be proclaimed, discover the context and the people to whom the word was first directed.
• Practice the proclamation of the word.
